We have the greatest commandment

we have the greatest commandment

Love God and love people.  Love has always been and will always be the strongest force in the universe.  No one can stand against it  Not the worst Muslim or the best Christian.  It is who God is and who He wants us to be.  Love.

But there is something more.  Read through the first chapter of Joshua and see what God commanded the children of Israel and what Jesus said in the Gospels —

“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. – Matthew 10:28

Practicing the lifestyle of fearlessness toward the world with the proper fear of God will allow you to see several things very clearly.  For one thing, you will come to realize that you can be spiritual without being religious.  The spirit carries weight with God – religion carries weight with people.

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. Romans 8:6

You will also come to develop confidence in God’s ability to save people.  I need to keep learning that it is the Spirit’s responsibility to bring people to Himself, and not mine.

I am beginning to discover that when I fear God, there is no room in my heart to be afraid of people.  This allows me to be non-defensive, gentle, and above all, Christ-focused.

It is my prayer that we can find Jesus in the eyes and heart of our Muslim friends – that we can see them as a child searching for their father – that we can take them by the hand and walk the journey of life and faith together – one step at a time.

About evanlaar1922

Have you ever noticed how many special ways God refers to us, His dear children? He calls us His beloved sons and daughters, the righteous, children of the kingdom, His anointed, royal priesthood, the faithful in Christ, His temple, His friends, and so many other loving names that speaks to who we are in Him. Also in many cases, the names we are given at birth have both biblical and heavenly identities tied into them. Our Heavenly Father who watches over us daily has created the ideal path for each of us to take to travel the journey of life, just as a father will make plans for his own child by putting things in place at a very early age for education, health, graduation, and marriage. God has predestined and equipped each of us to carry out a specific purpose that will create the design He desires to be in place for His kingdom to be effective in the earth.
