It makes holistic sense to the person who sees themselves as one among a great number of ‘beings’, and who finds themselves confronted by plurality of ‘powers’.
Such a view of reality seems far removed from the world of formal Islamic faith. We have discovered an unusual kind of ‘Islam’!
Of course, the world of official faith is most advertised as Muslims relate to the world around them. However, within ‘Christian’ communities, they mirror many of the religious experiences I have described in this blog.
The aim was to try to describe and explain subject matters of formal and unofficial religious belief and practice, as they apply to theistic faiths. Out of such explanation will arise a clearer understanding of what’s meant by ‘official’ and ‘popular’ Islam.
Of course, it is always good to bounce these off of your friends from the Middle East and North Africa.
